Biometry is the study of automatic methods to identify people’s unique identity, based on one or more behavioral or physical features, for instance, fingerprints, hand or face geometry, iris, voice, etc. The Computer Biometric Identification has the objective of making it possible to accurately identify each person based on personal patterns by means of computer systems.

The identification of people in an automatic, secure, fast and reliable way is becoming a pressing need in multiple areas of our society, basically due to:

  • The great development and penetration of Information Technologies (IT) in all social areas (e-Commerce, electronic government, health systems, etc.), which makes it increasingly necessary to have systems that identify us as individual agents of the digital society, thus enabling us to carry out transactions and interact with other agents in a more secure and reliable way;

  • Higher security standards introduced at a global level as a result of the terrorism threat, which results in the need to have efficient and reliable people identification mechanisms which allow for people’s smooth and secure transit.
